Since we cannot gather at this time to do the things we love: home-makeovers, community wide cleaning events, and big storage unit gatherings… we are highlighting five critical ways you can support refugees this summer:
- Cleaning supplies (especially disinfectants)
- Window A/C units
- Cloth masks OR cotton fabric and elastic
- Hygiene items
- Culturally appropriate food
We are asking ALL of our supporters to commit to at least ONE of the above throughout this summer.
We are in serious need of disinfectants for our Cleaning Education Program! Since the pandemic hit, stores have been limiting how many cleaning products we can buy (usually 1 per person).
The next time you are at the store, please pick up a bottle of disinfectant
To kill Covid-19 it must be:
- Bleach based
- Hydrogen peroxide based
- L-Lactic acid based
- Citric acid based
- 70% isopropyl alcohol or higher
**Ammonia and vinegar based cleaners have NOT been shown to kill Covid-19, so we will not be using these in our cleaning program.**
We are teaching families how to use disinfectants to kill Covid-19, but we can’t do that when we don’t have the right cleaning products!
If we can get 100 supporters to buy 100 bottles of disinfectants, we will be able to keep our cleaning program properly stocked for 3 months!
Cleaning supplies can be dropped off at our storage unit on Tuesday evenings from 5:30pm-7:30pm
OR
they can be left outside of our front door, under the awning (8000 Chicago Street, Omaha, NE, 68114… gray office/house).
You never know how HOT it is during the summer until you don’t have air conditioning. This summer, temperatures will reach 90 to 100 degrees, with heat indices even higher! There are many refugee families who are in homes and apartments with NO air conditioning! For the third year, Restoring Dignity is doing our annual WINDOW AC UNIT Drive, in which we collect air conditioners and install them in the homes of families who cannot afford to purchase their own units. Last year our goal was to get 50 units donated and our supporters CRUSHED it and donated 59!
Two ways to donate:
(1) Bring a new or gently used unit to our storage unit on Tuesday evenings
OR
(2) Donate funds for us to purchase air conditioners
1. Sew cloth masks and sign-up for a doorstep delivery

Support refugee families by donating much needed hygiene products!
Restoring Dignity is one of 12 Omaha area non-profits that is participating in the “Hygiene for Humanity” event (happening now through June 21st). It’s easy to support this cause! Items can be purchased on Amazon and shipped to one of five distribution locations. Or you can buy hygiene supplies at the store and drop of them off at one of the five designated drop-off sites in Omaha. For more information, visit here.

We collaborate with many incredible non-profits in the Omaha area, and Heartland Family Service (HFS) and Intercultural Senior Center (ISC) are two of them! Since the pandemic hit, HFS and ISC have been collecting and distributing non-perishable culturally appropriate food to the refugee community. Both agencies continue to collect food and distribute it.
For information about drop-off times for Heartland Family Service, visit here.
For information about donating food to Intercultural Senior Center, either call 402-444-6529 or drop off food at: 5545 Center Street Omaha NE 68106 from 8am-3pm. They also do food pick-ups as well.
