Window AC Unit Drive

AC Drive

You never know how hot it is during the summer until you don’t have air conditioning. This past weekend, temperatures reached over 98 degrees with heat indices of 105 degrees! There are many refugee families who are in homes and apartments with NO air conditioning! Restoring Dignity is launching our first ever WINDOW AC UNIT Drive, in which we collect air conditioners and install them in the homes of families who cannot afford to purchase their own units. If you have a used window air conditioner that is in good, functioning condition, please consider donating it. If you are able to purchase a new AC unit or two, bring it to our storage unit.

To sign-up to donate an AC unit, click here.

Days that our storage unit will be open are:
Saturday, July 7th 10am-12pm
Saturday, July 14th 10am-12pm

We are also looking for volunteers (or even volunteer groups!) who would be willing to install window AC units throughout the month of July. If you are handy with tools or know how to install window AC units, please contact Restoring Dignity via email or phone: email@rdomaha.com —- 402-305-8139.

  1. The OWH story about yale park apts. indicated that there was one parent with three children, one of which had asthma. The family was living there for two years, as I understand the story. She claims that she complained to landlord numerous times about the A/C to no avail.
One of the TV networks showed Councilman Ben Gray and landlord making statements at podium. The landlord made the statement that he would fix the A/C for next year. Does not that indicate depraved indifference to the health of that child who has asthma and probably had difficulty breathing all through this hot and humid weather we have been having ? Does not his statement make prima fascia case of felony abuse of a vulnerable child/person ? If so, why won’t the health officials bring felony charges ? I have asthma and I need A/C to sleep,
breathe with less difficulty, and lead somewhat of a reasonable life even with my asthma medications. Plus, the A/C is probably included in the rent. The family is not getting what they paid for. With the landlord’s statement on T/V; isn’t that indifference abuse of vulnerable adults(as Franklin Thomson put it – being taken advantage of(financially). That would be larceny. Some advocate needs to push the authorities to bring all the criminal charges the law allows. I know what it is like when you cannot breathe easily.

    1. Thank you for your comment! You bring up excellent points and we too hope that justice prevails in this situation. Whether the landlord realizes it or not, he is incriminating himself when he gets on public television and makes the statements that he has been making. Let him keep talking! He’s digging himself into a hole.
